The
park arranged a special Marsh Cruise for the Board after the
meeting. This
was the inaugural voyage of one of its new ferries the Bear Island II
just for FSP board meeting attendees. Led by Superintendent Paul
Donnelly we cruised past downtown Swansboro and the shipyards to view
the latest park addition Jones Island. We turned east across the
intercoastal waterway to Higgins Island. Then back South to the channel
to Bear Island which unfortunately was closed due to the channel
dredging that had just started that day. However it was great to see
this long awaited project in action. It will allow the ferries to
continue to carry visitors to beautiful and historic Bear Island.
