Founded in Seattle in 1938 by a group of mountaineers seeking quality
equipment, REI now has 3 million active members and operates 89 retail
stores nationwide, two online stores – REI.com and
REI-OUTLET.com – and an adventure travel company, REI
Adventures. REI was recently listed on FORTUNE magazine’s
“100 Best Companies to Work For in America.” REI
has been included in the rankings for 10 consecutive years.
REI currently has 5 stores in NC and has announced another store in
the Charlotte area to be opened in spring 2008.

in 2006 to Falls Lake State Recreation Area as well as Crowders
Mountain, Eno River and William B. Umstead state parks.

Crowders Mountain State Park
Prairie restoration project to establish a 2 acre piedmont prairie
ecosystem with native grasses and other species. This will bring back a
plot of land just as it was prior to European settlement. The land
near the visitor center has been cleared and replanted.
